Owner and your friendly adventure guide Dirk Laifoo, has been taking people on personal adventures of Waiben (Thursday Island), Muralag (Prince of Wales Island), Ngarupai (Horn Island ) and surrounding areas for many years.
Working with his partner Tanya, they have a enviable reputation of offering informative and entertaining tours with an exceptional level of service to their guests.
Dirk was born and bred in the Torres Strait and has a welcoming and outgoing nature. However, most importantly, both Dirk and Tanya have significant knowledge and understanding of the diverse mixture of cultures and the islands’ intriguing history.
Together they also possess a close affinity for the natural beauty of the region. Of particular interest to them is educating their guests to understand and appreciate this unique and beautiful destination.
They want their guests to leave this beautiful area with a sense of awareness and understanding of the historical and cultural values, protocols, traditions of family and connection to the land of the Indigenous people.
Based on what you want to explore in the region, they will create an adventure that will be the highlight of your trip to beautiful North Queensland and the Torres Strait region.
Dirk’s adventures has received a rating of 4.5 out of 5 with 95% of guests giving him a very good or excellent review.
Here is what they have said about our tours:
Dirk took us on a small guided tour of only 10 people. More informal and personal than the big Peddles tour consisting of mainly grey nomads.
Dirk, the Prince of Wales, certainly knows the history of Thursday Island as he is very much part of it. His tour takes in all of the highlights of the island and allows plenty of time at highlights such as the fort and crayfish processing plant to take in all the information. Great value and great service from Tanya and Dirk.
Thursday Island is very small in area so quite a lot is covered. Commentary is good and the odd joke keeps everyone entertained. Dirk is also a very good advertisement for Crocs!
If you want a small group tour by a local then I would suggest this tour, the bus holds 10 people We recommend you book early as tours sell out.
